I think my dad must hold the record for shortest time between joining and calling the AA (not including those nasty people who cruise roads looking for breakdowns and charge you £40 on the spot to join). My mother joined up for him at the stand they have outside the supermarket they use, at about 11.00am one Saturday. They were driving home less than an hour later when the engine caught fire and they called the AA out!
