MBSLynne, yes, Americans *do* eat chutney. My neighbor even makes his own. I have no idea why a child would be named that, though. I don't suppose it's much weirder than calling a child 'May' or 'April' or 'Charity' or 'Civilla', or for that matter, Dolores (dolorous), or Victor. When you think about it, names are strange.

I heard from a school teacher of a child whose name was pronounced 'Fee Molly', spelt 'Female'.
