here's one I wrote for my old Ben. nov/03

They say it is for life
but whose life does it mean.
My old friend has left me
no more, no never to be seen.
Now some of you remember
the black shadow on the floor
the one you tripped over
as you went towards the door.

They give their love to you freely
asking very little in return
so when their time does come
it is you they look towards.
As the memories flash before you
it is you that must bare the pain
to release them, let them go
Release their soul again.

But they get so deep inside you
where that pain begins to talk
From that little bouncy puppy
to the old friend that can hardly walk
They look to you for guidance
even though they cannot walk
It is you that must thank you
when it's time for their last walk.
