I think you'll find that the R100 and R101 were built at Cardington in Bedfordshire, not Shropshire, Dave (GUEST,Darowyn).

The enormous hangars are still there, and can be seen from a long way off. I once went to an open day there, and one of them is used for fire testing - there's a whole detached house built inside it, and they fill it with furniture and set fire to it, to see how long it takes to spread, using different materials, etc.

Not sure how that affects your theory about the song though.
