Ask a few people who have seen you to write reviews. Make an A4 flier with a picture of the band and a very brief biog, and have the reviews printed nice and big. Put them on a web site (myspace is free) along with some MP3s. When requesting gigs always suggest a date, and offer to help promote with posters and fliers at nearby venues
