re translations: the closest translation posted here is KennyB's, English Lyrics by Bernice Manoloff(1935). The one given by Masato is lovely. Translating a work of art (as opposed to a manual on fixing a tractor) is really difficult (especially with rhyming), one has to take a lot of artistic license - it is a creative process, more like writing a song from scratch. All of them are missing the espressive mood of the original, which is more like "Oh those black eyes! Oh how I love them!" I'm not carping, I couldn't do it as well, just pointing out some of the flavor that got lost, which is darn near inevitable.
