Cool. Yes, I think there have been many "Christs". That is certainly the viewpoint held by most spiritual students in the East. A Christ is an enlightened person. Enlightened people are capable of remarkable things, but they are not beings apart from the rest of us. They are normal human beings who have simply risen higher in unlocking their hidden potential, that's all. As such, they can sometimes do things that most people would consider miraculous.

Some of them go pretty much unnoticed. A few become very famous. A handful of them become so famous that their followers soon build a whole new religion around them...which is probably not what the enlightened one intended to happen at all!

Jesus would be in the latter category, I think. Like you, I came to admire him all the more for his own humanity, rather than his deification by others.
