Learn the language first...   When I first went to South Shields in the 70's I was loaned a record called 'Larn Yersel' Geordie', recorded as I remember by Mike Neville and George House, from the local BBC news programme. Vaguely remember learning to say 'Gann doon road t' see wor canny lass' or something similar.

Never did get to use it in casual conversation..
