Hey Mr or Ms Bystander...(I know not which!)
May I shake your hand for a wonderful posting.
Your reasoning about Live recordings was totally accurate.
Also, your thoughts re the intimacy of the UK Folk scene was also spot on.
It really is a family (and, normally a very badly paid one).
I will refer you to the the (sadly unavailable) recording by John Kirkpatrick..."What do You do in the Day?"
At last Sundays rehearsal with my latest band, we tried to work out the costs.
Petrol.....1350 miles. (divided by 6)
Hall Rent £95
Income....£0
I feel that the aforementioned Ms Route, should wake up and smell the reality of what it is REALLY like to try and make a living at music in this day and age.
Apart from a few, I would guess that most artists exist below the minimum wage, and on the charity of organisers.
Twas ever thus.
Regards and thanks Ralphie
