If you recorded performing musicians here (Nova Scotia) without asking permission, you'd be severely chastised at the very least. I wouldn't even record my friends in my living room without asking if they minded.

There is nothing to prevent you taking notes regarding your impressions of the music and 'filling in' afterwards. If your intent is to record the lyrics and tunes in order to write them down and possibly publish them, or parts of them, you are indeed infringing on the musicians and songwriters' rights to their own work.

And frankly, as a non-British folkie with little clue of BBC goings-on, I fail to see the tragedy in being booted from a message board: happens to people all the time, there are plenty other boards to move to. You seem to have moved to this one just to complain about another one.
