I tried all the commerical squirrel-proof feeders, and the funnels, and the dog. Squirrels still won. I can only invest a few hours a week - it is their job 24/7 to outwit me.

But I have won, and here's how...

Get a plastic-bodied feeder with metal perches, some insulated wire, and a battery-powered electric fence energizer.

Run wires from the two electrodes on the fence energizer (hot and ground) to two different (non-contacting) perches.

Birds will sit on one perch only, and not get zapped. Squirrels do their acrobatics and invariably touch the two hot perches simultaneoulsy. 7,000 volts (at 2 milliamps, so completely non-lethal) sends them flying through the air with all their fur standing straight up, and they often lose control of bodily functions mid-flight.
