Cats are outside aminals - at least all ours have been! And we had one that DID scratch the car regularly. I didn't use a water pistol on him really so it was not scaring him into jumping off. The scratches were extemely superficial though and a good rub - even without polish - usualy removed them. T-cut got the ones that I missed and I used it once a year to get get rid of all the old wax etc anyway.
