Thread Name: BS: Spring Forward for Daylight Savings
Subject: RE: BS: Spring Forward for Daylight Savings
The excuse that used to be used by the government for putting the clocks back in the autumn, making it lighter earlier in the morning, was that it saved the lives of kids walking to school.
Then more recently I saw something in the press that said the opposite, i.e. kids were more likely to get killed walking home from school in the evening.
I don't know which is correct, but as most kids don't walk to school any more, but get driven by their parents, I would have thought this argument was irrelevant these days :-)
I'm in favour of having more light at the end of the day, when I can conceivably do something useful when I get home, e.g. in the garden, before it gets dark. I can do folk-all in the morning before I go to work, because I don't have time, and I don't mind if it's dark when I go to work.
Coupled with that is the fact that we in the UK are 1 hour behind (most of)the rest of the continent - I can't see any reason why we shouldn't adopt continental time. (I suspect the anti-EU lobby would object though, as if it was swapping the pound for the euro.)
