For what it's worth "Are You From Dixie?" was written by Milton Agar and George Cobb between 1913 and 1917.
Also the above comment should refer to the bit after the first 6 lines of the chorus -- or with the lines 5 and 6 left out.

I'm sure there's less to this than meets the ear.
