One thing no-one's picked up on is that electrics (or plugged-in acoustics) can be _harder_ to play. First time I plugged in, I was amazed how much assorted crap came through the speaker! On an acoustic, if you brush a string by accident on the way through, or if you happen to twing it a little with your left hand when you take your finger off, then you just don't notice - the loudness of the other strings hides it. But plugged in you notice all those glitches.Maybe "harder" isn't the word - maybe it'd be better to call it "showing up flaws in your technique". Whatever, it's worth considering.
And on the pick-up side, there's distinct advantages in not losing the guitar sound every time you shuffle in your seat, or lean on the other foot! Anyone know if the miniature microphones they use on violins can also be used on guitars?
