The Wash DC area has a number of them....they range from simple and helpful to complex, dangerous, confusing tests of will and daring.
Sadly, there are few alternatives to most of them, since the city was laid out with many complex intersections. If we didn't have so many visitors, 'important' bureaucrats and 'ethnic' taxi drivers from countries where dodging thru mazes in vehicles is considered a sport, it might be easier.
