David Hicks has been given a nine month jail sentence to be served in Australia, "for supporting terrorism".

It has been noted elsewhere that the war on terror is unlike other wars, and if ever proof was needed, this is it. Regardless of his innocence or guilt, (or, if you prefer, take his innocence or guilt into consideration), can anyone explain to me what purpose has been served?
