Has no one mentioned Jean Ritchie's "Christ was born in Bethlehem" (verses go on to "down came an angel and rolled the stone away" . . . end with "go and tell your brethren, he's risen from the dead"). Is this perhaps the Appalachian song that an earlier post called her "Ballad for Easter"? Powerful (especially sung unaccompanied), very easy to sing along with (lots of repetition) and definitely "for Easter."
