I would have sworn the term "Sally Ann" was used in the US in the 1960's to refer to the Salvation Army. Of course, there's the traditional song of that name, but that certainly has nothing to do with the Salvation Army. The earliest use of the term I could find was from Peter Berryman's Squalor, published in 1980. Peter and I both grew up in Wisconsin, so maybe the term was used there and not elsewhere. -Joe-
