"diddly" = Irish tunes in the modern style, ie "how fast can the fiddles and banjos and whistles play them?"

"humpty" = English, mostly Morris dance tunes, played with button melodeons and anglo and english "threepenny bit" shaped concertinas, (and some fiddles) all of which performances bear an uncanny resemblance to "Nelly the Elephant".
