One day when I was in early grade school, someone in the family mentioned that it was Friday the 13th. It was the first time I remember anything about it, so I asked what that meant. My folks weren't superstitious about it, just told me about the belief. Within a few minutes afterward, I stepped out on our porch, slipped on ice, and just about busted my ass. No, I didn't become really superstitious about it, but I always remember that.
