I'm 5'9" and when I trained six days a week, had an eight-pack and fought regularly, my optimum weight was 172. I could run five miles, no problem, and do 100 pushups, no sweat. When I quit the training, etc, my weight went to over 190, and I felt sluggish, overweight and just felt bad. It took me two years to get back to 175 where I stayed for about ten years. Due to some things in my life my weight dropped to 160. Much too low for me. I have finally reached 170 again and stayed there for over two years. I was born in the late 1940s. I have never thought of people with weight problems as slobs, and I never will. The agonies I had over a measly 20 pounds above best weight for me taught me something of the agonies other people go through when their weight has got out of control for one reason or other. So, bubblyrat, I take issue with you. Not everyone has control over it. And I suppose a few people thought that of me, too.
Some people I do volunteer work with have a few extra pounds. Three or four times a year, year after year, they put their lives on the line for folks they don't know. They would do that for me, too, and me for them. So I'm afraid I cannot agree with you. Sorry, but I can't think of people in those terms. I hope I never do. Best regards to you.
