Thread Name: Origins: Sinner Man
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: oh sinner man
Lydia Parrish has in her collection "Slave Songs of the Georgia Sea Islands" (1942) she has a song called "Can't Hide Sinner" but she gives nothing at all about the song or when, who or where she collected it from, she does give the music though.
CAN'T HIDE SINNER
You may run to the rock Can't hide For a hidin' place Can't hide An' the rock cry out Can't hide You can't hide sinner, you can't hide
You may run to the sea Can't hide For a hidin' place Can't hide An' the sea cry out Can't hide You can't hide sinner, you can't hide
Oh sinner man Can't hide (these repeat thoughout the song) What you going to do Can't hide In the judgment day Can't hide You can't hide sinner, you can't hide (this line continues the same)
You may run to the grave For a hidin' place An' the grave cry out
You may run to the church For a hidin' place An' the church cry ouy
You may run to the mount'n For a hidin' place An' the mount'n cry out
