If the Gibson was a sunburst, it wouldn't be a J50. The J45 and J50 were the same guitar, but the J50 had a blonde front and the J45 was sunburst. I've seen a few (my nephew has one) J45s that have been refinished to look like J50s, but they still say J45 on the spine.
I'm talking about Kalamazoo made guitars. I think that Gibson has now made a signifigant difference in the J45 and J50s. I owned a '58 J50 and it was a great guitar.
