Subject: RE: A SAVVY little girl-TAKE HEED
I do know from personal experience that situations can get confusing on the street. Thirty years ago I was cruising through a sururban neigborhood checking on lawn signs (whether they'd been trashed) for our candidate or referendum (whatever) and as I slowed down near one of "my lawns" a little boy took one look at me and my car and high-tailed it around the corner. I was later invited to appear at the police station to explain what I was doing in that neighborhood. I was going to go right down to the police station but an attorney friend advised me to have him accompany me and for me to say nothing. His advice seemed ridiculous to me initially but he soon convinced me that there was too much risk in actually explaining what I was doing. So we went down to the station, my attorney spoke on my behalf, and the police warned me about cruising through that neighborhood. I still feel guilty about scaring the kid but hopefully he's able to sleep at night now.
