When my nine-year-old was in Kindergarten the kids sang this song at the end of the year assembly (Unfortunately in English only) and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. They had hand signs to go along and sang "mamas" then "papas" then "families". That may in fact be the standard way. I still mist up thinking about it.
