Jed's got it right. It's really very clever at lampooning
the sort of liberal who's all for integrated housing--- so
long as it doesn't affect property values. The 'some of my
best friends are black' types.

The choice of 'Puff' as the basis is clever, because it points
to people of a certain age and era.

Furthermore, the use of the archaic 'Negro' harkens back to
the sort of naive and awkward uses that lefties used as the
civil rights thing was getting under way.

I'm thinking of the roadhouse scene in the movie 'Animal House.'
You know: "Otis, my man!"
