We recently purchased a combination DVD/VHS Video/Digibox from Argos. There is only one Scart lead needed, one extra arial cable and it takes up less space than all three boxes.

The remote isn't too bad, but it does take some getting used to. It's programmable, records to VHS or DVD, can record VHS onto DVD and vice versa, has an SD port for ScanDisks (useful if you've a digital vid camera), has VideoPlus and timer record.

It's worth looking into, but we've not been able to find if there's a favourites list yet...
