OK, hokey hallmark holiday it may be, but what the *#@^. This year I've decided to celebrate.

Several mothers I know (and God knows, I'm only one of them) have had one HELL of a year. Don't even get me started.

But I have watched these women struggle with all kinds of adversity, and manage to keep their focus throughout, maintaining grace and dignity. These are just the ones I'm privileged to know.

I'm not sure my days are always marked by any kind of dignity, but I'm damn proud that I've kept my head above water, and from all accounts I have two lovely, smart, wonderful daughters who SEEM to think I do an ok job. I'm looking forward to my coffee and toast in bed, with snuggles and stories and a day of love.

I love my job. I'm glad every day that it's my best and most important job. And I am raising my glass to all you ladies who are keeping at it every day, come hell, high water, ingratitude, travail, sorrow, pain, poverty, adversity, loneliness, fear, you name it. Here's to you.

And if you have it easy and good, here's to you anyway. It's all good.
