I got a rock....actually two rocks (brown ones, dug out of the garden) wrapped up together with a rubber dinosaur pencil holder and a piece of a plastic toy. I choked up appropriately. (And, separately, a potholder my son had painted at school, but that hardly counts as the teachers are really in charge of those projects.)

Oh, and the best thing: he chose a very nice rose for me from the vase of flowers to be passed out to mothers at my church. For this I was quite grateful; I was singing in the choir so by the time I made it to the front of the church to get my Mother's Day bloom, the only ones left were miniature pink carnations. But there was Martin, proudly holding the last rose. For me!
