They didn't. And the laws of physics weren't miraculously suspended so the situation could correct itself. The only POSSIBLE explanation for the interruption of the sideways angular momentum is explosives on the floors below. I can dig up the scientific papers that address that if you want, but the door just hit you in the ass on your way out.
