You probably heard Great Big Sea's fairly recent version, but I can't remember if it is on their self-titled first CD or their second, called Play. (My CD's are packed up at the moment for reasons I won't get into.)

A nicer version is on the CD Wave Over Wave by Newfoundlander Jim Payne and Irishman-transplanted-to-Newfoundland Fergus O'Byrne. O'Byrne sings the version on that CD. It has more "bottom" than the GBS version, IMHO.

There is a song on the Ewan McColl/A.L. Lloyd CD of sea songs, Blow Boys Blow, which bears some resemblance to this song, only the sailor is a tad more drunk and disorderly, and flinging things about. (Can't recall the name, and the CD's are packed up.)

These CD's (except the McColl/Lloyd one) should be available at http://www.bpm.on.ca , where there is a listing of the tracks on all CD's for sale.
