Gee, people didn't take things so seriously when I went to the University of Texas.
I was getting a Master's but some one checked my past records and found that I never had taken a course in American history and government, a high school course necessary to get any degree at Texas.
When we were assigned an instructor, we checked his record, and found that he was an ultra-leftie. Regardless of political stripe, we biased our essays in that direction. No action committees, no pickets, no letter-writing- for a course that meant nothing to our field of study, we bent with the wind and pressed on.

(I had gone to school in New Mexico, where at the time a course in New Mexico history was sufficient.)
