Thanks for the links, pitheris. Thanks also to Bonecruncher, who has sent me some helpful stuff via the PM system.

Once I had an actual brand name to use in a web search it became slightly easier. "Liberon Pearl Glue" brought up a hardware shop in Bradford, which I have used in the past for other miscellaneaous bolts or tools. I can drop across sometime and call at the asian supermarkets for spices as well. It makes the trip worthwhile.
Of course "Scotch Glue" was almost useless in a web search. All it brought up was the 3M brand name "Scotch tape" and other products from the same manufacturer, none of which were hide glue.
