Thread Name: Req: Hidden track song from Christy Moore box set
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Hidden track song from Christy Moore
That's a tough one, Peadar. The main song on the cut is Quiet Desperation, which lasts the usual three minutes or so. Then there's applause and a bit of silence, and then this song begins. I can catch patches of it that are very clever, but I can't quite get the gist of the whole song.

I'm sure it's based on this one (click):

God Woman
(Christy Moore)

Dm   Am   Dm   Am

          Dm                      F                            Am
She spent seven days creating the World, the Sun, the Moon and Stars
             Dm                         Am
And the Plough and the Milky-Way and Jupiter and Mars
       Dm                               F                   Am
And she opened her ribcage. Then she pulled out a little man.
       Dm                                                      Am
She put him down on the plains of Kildare and the human race began

F                            Am
Go forth said she and multiply God man and I will by God.
       Dm                                  F                   Am
What better place to begin the race than below in the yellow Bog*

CHORUS

       Dm         Am         Dm    F   Am
God Woman, God Woman, God Woman, God Woman

   Dm                            F            Am
Down by the edge of Clongorey he built a holy cell
            Dm                              Am
Where he knelt to contemplate heaven and drink from St. Brigids well.
       Dm                                    F                Am
And then he went to the mission fields of Raheens and Ballitore
          Dm                                    Am
And he sailed on down the Grand Canal to the town of Lollymore.
      F                                        Am
Where he went breaking up the Bordellos, and smashing the poitín stills.
      Dm                      F                Am
Introducing the word of God around the furry hills

CHORUS

* The place was in fact Bowlings Gog at Barrongstown, Miltown,
Newbridge, County Kildare

That chorusappears several times.

Let's see what I can dig out.

She spent seven days creatin' the world, the sun and the moon and stars.
The Plough and the Milky Way, then Jupiter and Mars
Then she opened up her ribcage and pulled out a little man
Let him out near (timmerhout??), that's where it all began.

That's the way she did the shark-grass (?), God only knows
Life began for the little man without a stitch of clothes.
Go forth said she and multiply God man and I will by God.
What better place to start the race than below in the Dowlin's (?) Bog

CHORUS:
Don't you know, he's a hole to go (?)
Once he gets his foot out from the door.
Sound as a bell
He'll work like hell
Hire him if you can
Yer telly's grade and you'll never .... mortal man????

At the edge of Clangford's (?) garden he built a lovely cell
Where contemplated Limbo, then Purgatory and Hell.
With the barbed wire in his underpants he found it hard to sleep.
All he had for company was jockey boys (?) and sheep.

When he confessed to Warfield that England lie at all
He set sail out of the Grand Canal to the town of Lollymore.
Where he broke up the bordellos and he smashed the poteen stills
Useful humble trinked .... sandy hills

CHORUS:
Don't you know, he's a hole to go (?)
Once he gets his foot out from the door.
Sound as a bell
He'll work like hell
Hire him if you can
I hear tell he's great and you'll never meet a more devoted (?) man.

Way back in the sixties when the world was fresh and new
And the east and west were neck and next to be first on the moon.
It was him that steered the spaceship down on the moon to land
Who was there to hold the ladder, but the portimony (?) man.

He opened up the Klondike and blazed the Yukon Trail,
Crushed grapes in California before Columbus had set sail
He drank tea on top of Everest before Hillary was born
....art fest and baxter corona horn

CHORUS:
Don't you know, he's a hole to go (?)
Once he gets his foot out from the door.
He's Sound as a bell
He'll work like hell
Hire him if you can
I hear tell he's great and you'll never meet a more devoted (?) man.

[mouth music]

[repeat chorus]

Whew! That was tough, and I did a horrible job of it.
