Here's a little trick that WORKS BETTER.

Example: I ran into exactly the same roadblock, and never got past it.

Better: I ran into exactly the same roadblock, and I haven't gotten past it yet.

Even Better: I ran into exactly the same roadblock, and I'm still working my way past it.

Eventually: I got a bulldozer.
