Thread Name: Lyr Req: Alice, where are you going? Upstairs to..
Subject: Anna May, Where Are You Going?
Mark Cohen came up with these words in another thread. In their excellent Never Grow Up album, Anne Hills and Cindgy Mangsen use these same lyrics, but with the name "Alice."

Beanster:

Anna May, where are you going?
Upstairs, to take a bath
Anna May, with legs like toothpicks
And a neck like a giraffe
Anna May stepped into the bathtub
Anna May pulled out the plug
Oh my goodness, oh my soul
There goes Anna May down the hole!
Anna May?
Anna May!
(glug)

Of course, I'm reaching way back for that one, which I learned from my younger sister, and it's one of those that probably has many versions, but that's the way it was in northeast Philadelphia, 1965 or so. (My sister's best friend was named Annabelle, and immediately became Anna May after this song became known, much to her chagrin.)

Aloha,
Mark Cohen
