Thread Name: Lyr Req: Verses for Pallet on the Floor
Subject: Lyr Req: Verses for Pallet on the Floor
I was asked to list any 'extra' verses I've learned for Make Me A Pallet on the Floor. Some are probably familiar but I've listed them in the version I know.
Here are some I've collected through the years, from folksingers performing at various venues, records and even one from a mystery that was set in Boston. I may have mentioned that I have played this song more than any other song I've sung since I started playing music in my teens. Every few years a new verse comes along which seems to add a new meaning to life's journey of this song. Please feel free to add ones you know:
I'd be more than satisfied If I could catch a train and ride If I reach Atlanta and got no place to go Please make me a pallet on the floor.
I'm tired and I can't work no more I'm tired and I can't work no more I'm tired, sad and weary and I can't work no more Won't you make me down a pallet on the floor?
These blues are all I get to see These worried blues are all I get to see These worried blues are all I ever see No body's got the blues like me.
Some folks will beat you with a rubber hose Some folks will beat you when you fall And some folks will hit you when you're up against the wall These folks are not that kind at all.
(And my favorite) I'm going up country where the cold wind blows I'm going up country where the cold wind blows I am going up the country with the wind and white snow Ain't telling how much further I may go.
CHO: Make me down a pallet on the floor Make me down a pallet on the floor Make it soft, make it low, Ain't no one have to know Make me down a pallet on the floor.
