Get a friend to play the offending notes while you stand in front of him and methodically place a finger on each and every thing you can think of (on the guitar I mean) until you touch the spot that kills the resonance. I've done this on everything from guitars to motorcycles and it works if you're patient.
Of course then the job is only half done, you still have to fix it...
