If files on the CD are compressed, it's possible that you can't see the individual files by the installed file name and need to "extract" them rather than just copying. Unfortunately different software publishers use a number of different compression methods, so there's no universal method for getting an individual file off their installation disks. xxx.dll files commonly show up on install disks as a xxx.d_ file but even that isn't universally true. A usual method of getting them on the hard drive would be via Control Panel, and/or sometimes Device Manager. Either of these can sometimes find a driver or codec that doesn't appear visibly on an installation disk, if the one you need is embedded in a .cab or other compressed format file.
