Warning! This is NOT a serious song *BG*. I admit that it is a stretch -- but, I was in the park with kiddies today and I got well, inspired. Please put your sense of humour on before reading the following:

The Birdies Will Not Sing Today In The Forest

If you go looking for birds today
You're in for a big surprise.
For the birds they will not sing today,
For they didn't win the prize.

They had a contest, didn't you hear?
To choose the best bird, so lend an ear,
The birdies will not sing today in the forest!

It was all the hawk's idea,
He's very picky when it comes to noise, and hungry too.
He proposed the "Great Sing Off"
The grackle cackled and the owl said 'who?'

On each branch, the birdies sang
The woods they fairly rang
To heaven with every song.
At six o'clock the winner was named,
And taken 'out to dine,'
But the contest came out all wrong!

Ev'ry birdie was looking for
The winner to come back soon.
They watched and waited the whole night long,
Tittering under the moon.

But when the evening shadows had passed,
The bird who was 'first' had ended up 'last',
And the smug old hawk was full of himself and the winner!

All the birdies skipped their lunch,
And gathered in a bunch,
To see what was to be done today.
They agreed unanimously,
That their songs would take a holiday.

See the mad hawk fly around,
No sign upon the ground
Of any food for him.
No fish or fowl, no feather or tail
Will ever make a sound,
'Cuz if they do, the future's rather grim!
