I may be living in the last state in the US that allows smoking in public establishments.

I've lived in places where a ban was instituted while I was there. Prior to it, there was a lot of speculation about how business would be ruined as smokers stayed away in droves.

What really happened was that smokers adapted, and a lot of folks who previously left early or stayed away entirely started spending more time in these smoke-free establishments and business improved almost universally.
