Thread Name: Lyr Req: Where the Orange Blossoms Grow
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Where the Orange Blossoms Grow
At a Florida librarians conference, I presented this song to a large group during a workshop setting. The idea was to offer songs of greeting to begin the morning in a classroom. I was really surprised at how many people had not heard of it!(newcomers?) Everyone truly enjoyed it and wanted the lyrics. The lyrics are cute (very descriptive of Florida)and the melody catching. Morning announcements and student-produced technology would have an excellent learning opportunity here!
As an African-American, I find this song ('orange blossom...') much more tolerable and acceptable for the Florida I call home. It's also especially appealing and more teachable to children. I know we've made some "changes" to the 'old folks at home' but it was too little too late. Why not change it altogether?! I'd surely cast my ballot for this song to become the state song!
