I'm sorry you think it a daft question: I live in Canada, and here women weren't permitted in pubs or taverns until 1972, and since many discussions of UK music seem to focus on pubs, farm workers, fishermen, and other establishments and professions that here would have been considered strictly male preserves, am I supposed to just assume the women's situation in the UK?
