I'm just back from a trip to Ireland with a tour group. On Monday the 2nd, Mudcat's own Captain Birdseye (Dick Miles) and his partner Cathy came to our hotel in Midleton, Co. Cork to jam with me for our group.
We had a lovely time in a concert-style session in the hotel bar, and the group really liked Dick and Cathy's music.
Dick is a superb concertina-player and singer, with a powerful singing voice and a great repertoire of songs old and new. And he can knock out the reels and jigs on his collection of mouth-organs too. He also brought his tenor banjo (which I told him to keep his eye on as I tend to collect errant Vega Little Wonders!) and his guitar.
Cathy is a lovely lady and a cracking musician on both the button box and the fiddle. She has a large repertoire of tunes on both instruments, and as if that weren't enough, she was able to accompany me brilliantly on a few of my songs. All unrehearsed.
I want to thank them both for a special evening of music and song which was very much appreciated by a group of touring Yanks.
Thanks, Dick and Cathy, and can we do it again sometime?
