my memories, Mrs. Duck, also stem from traumatic events. For instance, the memory I have of the car trip when I was 8 months old evidently comes from discomfort. My mother said as soon as I was released from the car in the evenings I scooted everywhere, happy as a lark. And every morning when I had to get back in the car I cried.

The memory of me as an 11-month-old gazing at the pile of bedcovers also has a driving force. My mother said that I was forbidden to touch the covers because I loved to get on the pile and 'waller' around on it.

I don't remember that, of course. I prefer to think of myself as perfect. *g*
