I enjoy audiobooks of old, old books. They seem different now, with my older viewpoint, than they did earlier in my life. This is true of any "isms' I run into in them, as well as of every other aspect of them. Every time I encounter one of the "surprises," it's a chance to rethink huge, complicated issues.

I think our generations' challenge is not to sanitize and censor, but to keep thinking. That may mean there are some old favorites that are no longer favorites-- that have become retroactively and currently painful. But I don't hold myself responsible for pre-knowing which items are going to cause such a reaction, because I will know what I know when I know it. That's one complication we human beans have to deal with-- we experience time as a linear, living force.
