That's true, too. I had mine smashed, just the tip, but it did break a small bone and the new nail grew in looking somewhat different in shape.

As far as pain goes, be sure to keep it elevated to reduce the blood pooling in it, also you might try an anti-inflamatory for pain and to reduce the swelling.

A doctor is still a GOOD idea.:-)
