Sonnet 17/12/04                            CMLXIII

I worry about past muse, but I know
I have no right to care if she is well:
She has made clear I should not try to tell
How her sadness makes my heart want to show
That I still feel concern. Hope does not grow,
That arms might ever hold, but still some spell
Keeps me thinking of her: Not book, nor bell,
Nor candle breaks me free. Does heart debt owe?
She is a part of past, but I must build
A future: Should I throw away the joy
That she once gave? I value what she shared.
I cannot alter past, that she has willed
To be apart. I dare not dreams employ,
But hope past words might show how much I cared.
