One of my best friends has polish grandparents who came over here after WWII, they wanted to integrate so chose an english surname (Which she jokes is actually Scottish!). My friend is English to the core, with a good degree in History and English, a journalism qualification and a large amount of modeling work, on which she pays a lot of tax! Who says integration can't work?
